Managed to check out of Largo and arrive at the airport in Tampa on time. The flight had one stop on the way at Charlotte Douglas International Airport before an onward flight to Tennessee.

The flight from Tampa was slow arriving and I was looking at my onward flight details thinking that check-in is opening and I need to hurry up. Why is it then ,that when you have a limited time to get to your departure gate, that the one you need is always the furthest away form your arrival gate??

A 10 minute sprint later and I arrive sweating at my gate to see that my onward flight has been delayed by 2 hours due to essential maintainance. Of course, that fills you with confidence doesn''t it - the words 'essential maintanance'!!

Anyway ,we all board finally and I land in Tennessee where Nathan from the University of Tennessee Forensic Training Academy is going to collect me from the airport. I dial his mobile to hear the words 'this phone is no longer in use' and suddenly remember that facebook notes from him said that he had dropped it in a lake! Ah, now what??

I phoned the Academy and they managed to get hold of him. He arrived in a vehicle donated to the centre by P. Cornwall the author who has been a strong supporter of the Academy for a very long time now.

We went straght to the Academy and Nathan told me about the development and history of the programmes, how they are funded and how the learning programmes are validated. I was extrememly impressed by the detail covered in the programmes and the facilities they have there.

The CSI training programme is 10 weeks long and students on this programme are able to visit the Body farm as part of their curriculum. Clear and documented learning outcomes and assessment methods are recorded and I am sure that the detail covered will assist the Academy in respect of what is recommended in the NAS publication. Well done guys!

The whole team have worked extremely hard to build an excellent reputation for the Academy and also to provide programmes delivered both there on site and also that can be taken to other states for delivery.

We went out for dinner after the tour - please see the photographs as they have thought carefully about design of the lab space and this has worked for them really well. Needless to say we put the world to rights over dinner and I must say that the Tennessee hospitality is first class. Thank you Nathan.

Nathan is flying out to Seattle tomorrow so his colleague Robert is taking me out for the day to visit the CSI department and also the new forensic lab that has been built to service this third of the state. I cant wait.

Time for bed as it has been a very long day travelling!
