Wow, sleeping on the great wall of china. That was a great idea... i strongly recomend it to anyone, just make sure of several points: You bring something to lie on as the stones are hard. Bring plenty of bug repellent cos there are lots of bugs. And check that it's not going to be so damn MISTY AND HAZEY YOU CANT SEE 20meters!! Grrrrrrr
It was great fun though and something not many other folks will ever have done. The wall is amazing.. the section at Mutinayo was restored and even has a taboggan at one end, but once at the top and locked in, Matan (an israeli guy we went with) and I climbed the gate to an unrestored section of the wall and took a good look! The whole workmanship and scale is impossible to comprehend on this 3km section we were on, never mind the other 6,000k!
After we got up and missed the sunrise due to the haze, we got back to
Beijing and sweated profusely all the way. The train ticket situation to Guilin is looking slightly weird as we have to call tonight at 9pm for a ticket to leave at 9am... just plain odd if you ask me!
After we sussed that, we considered the evenings movemnts when Ian from UB arrived and distracted us while we played catch up and heard about his Gobi adventures. He has since moved in to our hostel. We then got invited to go for a mass meal at a Duck restaurant with 14 other folks at the hostel, where i bumped in to Sam and Kate from Olkhon island. Meeting them for the World Cup final tonight.
This morning, once we swam out of the flooded hostel after a torrential storm, susi and i cycled to the Summer palace, but once again our 30k round trip was in vein due to the haze and mist. thrs only so many temples you can look out with out going.. 'mmm, nice...' so we cycled back..
getting ready for the final now... cheering the Azzuri!
