After leaving here we were now on the start of the long boring journey to Western Australia. We were also getting into Aboriginal teritory and so in some of the towns we went to it was quite scary seeing them walking around the streets drunk and fighting. Places like this were Port Augusta and Kimba. We only stopped at these places for supplies as we were now approaching the Nullaboor. The very last bigish town was Ceduna and we had to stop here as I had an ulcer on my eye and had to go to the doctors. None of these towns were that nice and there wasn't really a lot there but it was the last place of civillisation we would see for 3 days as we then started to cross the Nullaboor
This is the road from South Australia to Western Australia and it was dreadful.
There really is nothing to see. There is a petrol station every 200kms and that really is all.Other than that all you see are dead kangaroos, birds of prey on the roadkill and the odd lorry to wave to. It is a long, straight, hot boring journey.
It took us three days and that was driving 10 hours a day with only each other to talk to. The only other companion we had was the Ipod and Spencer's beautiful siging voice!!
On the third day we got to a town called Norseman, this was the first town with a shop and a pub and the first place where we could get a phone signal so I had lots of messages from a worried mum to deal with!
The next day we drove the 200kms to a place which Spencer has been looking forward to going to even before we got to Australia. It is called Esperance and was really lovely. It has really blue seas and some of the niocest beaches we have been to. The only dissapointment was that Spencer booked to go diving here, however when he came back he was a bit letdown as he didn't really see too much when he was down there. There were no sharks, turtles or groups of fish like he had seen on his last dive
There is also a Nickel plant in Esperance so this makes the air smell a bit funny sometimes! We had a really good time relaxing in Esperance after our long drive - the weather was good and we drank and ate far too much (we even had a champagne breakfast one day)!
After Esperance there was still quite a lot of driving until we got to Perth. On the way to Perth we stopped at the famous Wave Rock and got a couple of piccies there.
We actually arrived in Perth on Valentines Day.
We knew as soon as we got to Perth we needed to find jobs and find an apartment to live in as we had Spencers mum Janet and Ben and Duncan all coming out to visit us.
So much of our time was taken up looking for jobs, having interviews with agencies and trying to find a nice apartment that would let us sign a lease for just 3 months.
As you can imagine this was a lot harder than we thought it would be.
We have spent some time in Perth City looking around, we have been to Northbridge (China Town), shopping and to Kings Park, but we decided if we were going to be living in Australia we would like to live by the sea.
So while we were looking for a place to live, we made ourselves a temporary campsite in a small city 15mins from Perth called Fremantle.
We found a park by the beach with a toilet and shower block, a phone and most importantly a bar. It was called North Quay and this was our home for 3 weeks while we got jobs and found and moved into our apartment......
