Doner Kebab
Entry 57 of 106 | show all | print this entry |
We were awoken by the other couples alarm, just a couple minutes before our alarm went off. This meant that they got the bathroom first. By the time they were finished, we had to have a very hurried shower, to make it down to breakfast before they finished serving. The whole experience has put us off these Youth Hostels.
After breakfast we set off for a day time walk around town. It was our first bright sunny morning, however the air was still cool. We once again took a whole bunch of photos, before going into town and browsing the shops.
At around midday we went back down to our Hostel, and got our bags, before catching the bus back the train station.
As we are growing a bit tired of cities, we did a little more research on Germany, and for decided to alter our itinerary. We had decided to head for the town of Mannheim, in Western Germany, and then from there make our way through the black forest and west to Munich.
The trip to Mannheim was even more beautiful than the day before. The trains are very good in Germany, and for once they are mostly free with our Eurail pass. So combined with the amazing scenery, our first impression of Germany was great.
Arriving in Mannheim at 6pm was not so great. Our LP did not have any information on Mannheim, so we had no idea where to stay. We went to a Tourist Information office, but they could only recommend hotels way out of our price range.
In the end a lot of walking around paid off as we found a cheaper, very clean hotel.
We then went out for a drink and some dinner. For some bizarre reason, Doner Kebabs are very popular in Germanz, and every street corner in Mannheim had one. It wasn't long before we chose one, and had a cheap, tasty feed.
