Today was a very lazy morning as we slept in and checked out of our Pension at 10:30. First up we found a place to burn by first 1000 photos to DVD and then did a bit of shopping in the markets.
For lunch we found a great place serving western style sandwiches - something that we have been longing for. After lunch we made our way back to our Pension and lounged by the pool while waiting for our transfer to the bus station.
We were originally told that our bus to Pamukkale would be leaving at 4pm and get us there by 8pm, however this changed to 4:30pm, but our transfer would pick us up at 3:45. A taxi arrived at our hotel and after a bit of confusion we were told to get in as it was our transfer. The taxi then made its way to a travel agency where three more people were waiting with their bags for a lift to the bus station. After a lot of arguing the taxi driver and travel agency staff realized we couldn't all fit in the taxi so the travel agency piled the other three people into one of their cars, and we sped off to the bus station.
We got on the bus and slowly started winding up into the surrounding mountains. It was a spectacular drive, if a bit scary and slow. It seems to be common practice for all buses to pick up and drop off people wherever they want - and our bus was forever screaming to a halt. At one point it was even pulled over by the police and after a quick exchange with the driver a whole family of people climbed aboard.
At 9pm we pulled into the town of Denizli - 20km from Pamukkale - and a man waved down the bus and told everyone going to Pamukkale to go with him. So we all got off the bus in the middle of the road and grabbed our bags from below as cars swerved around us. We then all got into this mans minibus and he checked our tickets.
He then drove for about two minutes to Denizli bus station and told Megan and I to get out as someone should be waiting there to pick us up. As it was over an hour past the time we were meant to arrive there - there was no one waiting for us. As helpful as all the people at the bus station were, none could speak English. So for a frantic 20mins we tried to work out how to get to our Hotel before finally Megan found someone who called our Hotel for us. However he could not speak English and the person at the Hotel could not speak English so the conversation went nowhere.
All of a sudden someone appeared speaking English saying he had had a call from the Hotel and told us to get on a Minibus and get off at the last stop. Finally once the minibus had enough people in it, we set off. After about 20min it stopped and we were told that this was Pamukkale. It looked like the middle of nowhere and only a few people got out - so it was not the last stop. But someone came up to us and looked at our hotel voucher and said we should get off.
We were then directed to walk down a very dark road turn left and then left again. We were a bit scared, but did as we were told. Finally after about half an hour of walking and accepting the help of countless people we found our hotel. it was now 11pm. We went straight to bed.
