Hi everyone,

Heres our weekly update :):):)...

Cant believe we have been gone 2 weeks already!!!

Thursday 20th May - Byron Bay

Today we did lots of exciting things.  First we went to the growers market to get some fresh fruit and veg from local growers - we saw a few interesting "hippies". Then we walked to the most easterly point in Australia and then up to the light house, it was called Cape Byron lighthouse - some lovely volunteers showed us how big the whales are and we got to touch some whale bones and the baleen (which is the filter inside a whales mouth) I couldn't believe how big whales are.  The whales are due to migrate from the south pole up the coast and can be seen from the lookouts here in the next few weeks

After lunch we decided to go on a ocean Kayak with dolphins, it was run by Byron Bay local lifesavers, we saw more than 5 dolphins on our trip, we also got a chance to snorkel around a volcanic reef and saw lots of fish (no turtles unfortunately), getting close to the end of the snorkeling we saw a Garnet bird dive head first into the water directly in front of mum snorkeling - it was awesome.  I got a few pictures of dolphins but there were really fast, so the pictures are not that clear. At one stage Mum, Matty and Dad (I was on the tour guides kayak) had a dolphin swim directly under their boat it was amazing to see the dolphins up so close.

We met up with Aunty Sheri's best friend Jodi, Trent, Matthew and Chelsea just by chance they were staying in the same caravan park as us.

Friday 21st May - Byron Bay

It rained all day today and we were stuck inside the van playing games and reading books

Saturday & Sunday 22, 23rd May - Blue Knob

We started the day off with a final surf at Byron Bay the sun was finally shinning again YAY!.

We packed up and then drove for 2 hours (the GPS took us the wrong way - or was that Mum and Dad thinking they knew best!!!!) to get to Blue Knob (its a small place near Nimbin) its near Mt Warning and inside an old volcano.  We stayed at Dads friends farm Darryl, Christine and their 3 kids Chris, Marcus and Georgia.  We made the best fire EVER! Thanks ALVIN for all the wood.  The fire lasted all night it was so big.  We played with it all day and all night, we cooked marshmallows, we had heaps of sparklers (we had races to see how long they would last) and then dad pulled out some old fireworks but they were pretty lame.... but still fun. We got to burn old cardboard and newspaper in the morning to get it going again we also started it by poking sticks into it. They had a guinea pig that looked like and was named wombat. We got to see the moon through a big telescope called a moon scope, you could see the craters of the moon really clearly and mum thought it was a slide not the real moon (silly mum). We had a great time and got to sleep in the big house with the kids instead of the van for a change.  We left at 3pm and crossed the Tweed River into Queensland.  Mum was saying it was hotter already (its been really cold in NSW).  We stayed at Kirra beach (near Surfers Paradise).

Monday 24th May - Kirra Beach

Today was extraordinary!!!  First I went surfing at Kirra beach.  Then we drove to Mt Tambourine behind Brisbane. On the way we had to stop in the middle of the road because a huge carpet python snake was crossing the road mum didn't want to run over it because she was scared that the snake was going to rap around the wheel and onto the bottom of the car so we had to wait for it to pass so we could go around it!!! When we got to our campsite we put up the caravan as quickly as we could so we could fossil for thunder eggs. When we were all ready we hurried down to the rock shop to start digging. The lady at the Rock Shop gave us a little intro and told us some things we had to look for, she also told us that thunder eggs where around millions of years before the dinosaurs!!!Then she gave us a pick and sent us down to the mine an hour later we came back with our full bucket and pick and headed up to the Rock Shop to get it cut open!!!
We got 1 cut open each dad also cold chiseled some open for us :):):):):)YAY:):):):):)YAY:):):):):) The one I got cut open was really pretty on the inside

Tuesday 25th May - Mt Tambourine

Today we went on a couple of bush walks, to a waterfall and a rain forest, when we where half way through we saw a SNAKE, dad nearly stepped on it. The snake was nearly in hibernation because it was moving very slowly. We are not sure what type of snake it was well not yet any way!!! After all the walking we were pretty hungry so we decided to find some food on the main street, when we were looking around I saw "Granny Macs" it was a lolly shop and cafe. Dad bought 2 yards of licorice, some slate pencils (ma would have loved those) and some sour eggs and a triple dipper sherbet.  It was then back to the campsite at Thunderbird Park campsite. After dinner Mum spotted blood all over the caravan floor and finally worked out that it was coming from her foot - there was a huge leech sucking her blood on her toes, she didn't feel it but it looked gross.  We put salt on it and it shriveled up. URGGGGGG:( :(

Wednesday 26th May - Australia Zoo (Sunshine coast QLD)

Today we went to Australia Zoo, first we looked at the Alligators and Crocodiles, then we saw the Wild Life Warriors show where we saw birds fly over our heads, we also saw the keepers feed the crocodiles just like Steve Irwin did when he was alive.  Then we walked to roo heaven, where we bought some roo food and hand feed the wallabies and kangaroos. I was surrounded by Kangaroos and Wallabies all wanting to eat my food.  Matty went on a pony ride. We then saw Koalas, we also got to pat them, they were all sleepy eating eucalyptus leaves (so cute).  Then a wombat came walking past with a volunteer it was in a hurry to get some food, we could pat him too. The wombat and snake enclosure was next, followed by the Tasmanian devils. After lunch we caught a shuttle to the tigers, we saw a cheetah up close on the shuttle ride. The tigers were jumping into their pool and showing off.  THEN we all got to feed the elephants, Sabu, Sian and Bimbo. We put a peice of fruit or  vegetable in our hands and the elephant picked it up with its trunk and popped it in its mouth, we ended up with elephant slobber all over our hands.  We finished with a bird show and said goodbye to Jodi, Trent, Chelsea and Matthew who we met up with again.  We drove to Alex head caravan park.  IT was a big day and we all loved the zoo.

Thursday 27th May - Alex Head (Sunshine coat QLD)

Today we are a Alex Head, we went for a surf at the beach and stayed there most of the morning, there was a great little wave.  Whilst swimming we saw fish jumping through the waves.  We had lunch at the Kiosk a yummy salad sandwich. We had a relaxing day.  Matty and I even got to plan, shop and cook dinner for the family - we cooked nachos and honeycomb crumble on icecream YUM YUM YUM.

Friday 28th of May - Alex Head to Noosa QLD

Today was fantastical, first we went another surf, then we quickly packed the van before it started raining, then we drove to the Queensland aircraft museum (dad loved it), we then drove to the BIG pineapple it was trashy as... the plantation was cool and the actual pineapple was O.K but the gift shop was horrendously bad - it had NOTHING in it, not even a postcard, although we did manage to buy some pineapple lumps (poppy would love these - sorry poppy we ate them all...)  last but not least we went to the Ginger factory, I reckon this was the best thing we did today.  We went on a bee tour and saw bees making honey in their hive, we learnt how long the queen bee can live for (6 years), how much honey they produce in a year (up to 27kg) at the end we got taste honey, first we tasted the eucalyptus honey, that was one of my favourites, then we tasted a Tasmania honey, then iron bark honey and last but not least we tried ginger in honey it was a bit too spicy for me. I bought propolous lollies - they are made from the stuff that bees make the hive out of - they are yummy and sweet and are good if you have a sore throat.  The bees were amazing.  We drove to Noosa and it was raining when we had to set up the van but we did a O.K job.

well I finally had a look at your website and caught up with what you've been up to - seems like you're all having a great time. I particularly liked the leech story - travel is much more fun when gross bugs are around! Better on your foot than in your eye, which happened to the son of a friend - they had to go to a hospital to get it removed - ewww! Glad you're getting to surf plenty - although I could do that on my way to work with all the rain we're having in Sydney lately :( Keep having fun!
