We went to Skyline Ranch after Banff. It took us quite a long time to get there but it was a pretty drive through the mountains. We saw no more bears! When we finally got there it was quite hard to tell what Ranch was the right one because it was several miles down a gravel road and there were no signs. In the end we did go to the right one.The Ranch was a very pretty house surrounded by fields of flowers owned by Cowboy Bill  and Catharine- who was a great cook and very kind to us.
We soon learnt that everything here ran on ranch time, which for those of you who don't know is very very slow! For example we were asked to be ready to ride at 9 am but actually never left the coral until 11am.
We got used to ranch time eventually!
The riding was really fun. The 1st time me and Oliver rode we were led but after that we were able to ride by ourselves. The saddles were Fairly comfortable, very different to English saddles. I rode Doc at the beginning
For the 1st 2 days and then rode Peggy at the end. I liked Peggy best, but Doc was great too. Oliver rode Nugget all the way through, he seemed to like him very much.  We rode twice every day and went off all over the ranch, up steep tracks through woods and across meadows of tall grass and flowers.
We trotted quite a bit and at the end had a little canter. The horses also liked to jump across any ditches or little streams.  We saw a Coyote a few times whilst out riding, and several hawks, 1 eagle and lots of deer and cows.
Mum and dad did an evening ride one night, and they seemed to have a good time too. None of us fell off any of the horses even when they went for a lop ( short for gallop!).
Cowboy Bill has seen bears and cougars on his land, and before we were there a cougar had attacked one of his horses called Tree. They never caught it even though he and Mountain Rangers went to look for it. The horse survived and was out riding with us.
We were sad to leave the ranch as it meant saying goodbye to Canada. Catherine gave me and Oliver a bunch of sweets to stuff in our pockets. Mum does not know! Shh don't tell her.
