Where I stayed
[After a few heart racing moments on some scary windy roads up the mountains on the first day, not to mention trying to park in Walmart, I think I have got the hang of the 27ft RV. Haven't clipped anything (yet) - Dan ]
Having driven through some lovely scenery around Sedomo the approach to the Grand Canyon was fairly uninspiring - lots of forest but no views.
But then we walked over to the edge and had our 1st view. The Grand Canyon is ENORMOUS! Really really big, you can not believe the view.
It looks little from standing at the top but we know its huge.
We had 3 days in our RV there and did many things - Millie and I were interested in becoming a Junior Ranger. We had a Junior ranger booklet we had to fill in by finding out interesting things about the Grand Canyon. We went to a J R programme where we learnt about the animals who live in the canyon and how they use their 5 senses to survive.
We also saw the California Condor - a huge bird of prey that has wings about 9 foot wide that live in the canyon.
Here is a picture of some local Elk that joined us for breakfast!
We walked into the canyon - it felt like we walked half way down but actually was a tiny distance. It was very steep, dusty and HOT! We met people who had walked up from the bottom and it had taken them 10 hours to get to the top. They looked tired.
We used the shuttle bus there to see amazing views of the canyon from different points along the rim, and did some walks, and enjoyed the ranger talks and films.
From the rim we could see some thunderstorms - amazing lightening.
One of the best things we did was take a helicopter ride over the Canyon. This was very very cool! Mummy got to sit in the front by the pilot.
You could see a long way from the helicopter and see the Colorado river at the bottom of the Canyon.
