Today my coworker and I took the ferryboat across the Rio Burenham to go see what we could find.  It was a beautiful day out so I took lots of pictures on the ferry ride.  We went into Arraial D'Ajuda and drove around the town.  But it's Sunday morning at 11am, nothing was open and a only a few people were out on the streets.

So we decided to drive further south, at least to Trancoso.  We took this extremely rutted dirt road for about 15km until we came to the Praia de Nativo(Native Beach).  We walked out and found this awesome little slice of paradise.  There was a beach hut converted from a beached boat(look at the pics).  And they had chairs set out underneath thatched roofing for shade.  And they had beds and couches set out with sheets around them for shade.  Imagine what most of the tropically located hotel's ads look like, and this was it.  It is far enough out of the way so there is no cell phone coverage View of Porto Seguro

.  So there are no interruptions.  The food at this place isn't the greatest and it's a little expensive because it's so far out of the way.  But their Caiparihnas are good.

There were some locals walking up and down the beach selling snacks.  I told you about the grilled cheese with oregano a couple of days ago.  Well, I ordered two for Elias and I so I could take pictures of it(yeah, that was the only reason ;).  So we lounged there for a bit and watched some guy throwing a coconut to play fetch with his golden retriever, then we decided to take the dirt road further down and see where it led.  The road ends at a beach called Praia Coqueiro.

Then we drove up into Trancoso, not much to see in that town so we left and went back north to head back to Porto Seguro.  The tide had run out so the middle part of the river mouth was high and (not quite) dry.  For anyone going to Porto Seguro and interested in riding on the ferry, I took a picture of the schedule so you don't miss the boat.

Oh, and we also drove up to the airport to figure out how to return the rental car after midnight.  On the way back down, I noticed the great view of Porto Seguro and Arraial D'Ajuda so we stopped to take pictures.  The airport is up on a plateau above the town and river.
