Before leaving Bratislava, we found our way to the big rebuilt castle on top of the hill that overlooks the Danube.  It was pretty from a distance but kinda disappointing.  When they rebuilt the castle, they used modern materials and the castle just doesn't look authentic anymore.  It was free to walk around in the main courtyard area, but they wanted us to pay to go in and see exhibits that didn't even have anything to do with the castle so we hotfooted it outta town and onwards to Budapest.

It was a really nice drive from Bratislava to Budapest, all good highway and we made great time.  Then in Budapest we only got slightly lost looking for our campground in the middle of Buda.  As we were turning around in a car park, Team Facerace's front passenger wheel just fell off at the strut.  We were really lucky it happened here and not while going 70mph down the highway!  But it was just completely rusted through and the strut support just snapped.  And the car was blocking the back 1/4 of the parking lot so noone could get in or out.  So one of the guys who was now blocked in went and called an emergency car service while we took our car to the campground to stake out our spaces.  Then I walked back to check on them.  The mechanic was most of the way finished by that time, but he wanted 400GBP to fix it.  What else could they do?  The tools that we got for this trip are too cheap and couldn't break through the rust on the bolts.  By about 9pm, everything was finished and they were able to drive on to the campground

Phew! I just found your blog today. Don't know how I missed it up to now. You are one crazy dude. I really admire you. You just keep on truckin', no matter what. Looking forward to the rest of the story, and hope you all arrive in Mongolia in one piece. Whatever will you do with the car once you get there? Drive all the way back?

We're donating the car to charity once we get to Ulaan Bataar. And a lot of the equipment that we've brought with us on the trip also!! We're leaving Tashkent on Monday morning to head on up back into Kazakhstan.
