For those that dont know, I was robbed in Jundiai a few days ago.  I had stopped to change a flat tire on my rental car, and when I got done changing the tire, my backpack was gone from the front passenger seat (the flat tire was on the rear drivers side).  I never even saw it happen!

I lost my laptop, passport, digital camera, back-up hard drive, and more...

Ive spent the last few days trying to resort out my passport and visas.  Luckily the US consulate was able to issue me a same day emergency passport (though its only good for 3 months) and then yesterday and today were spent getting my new RNE number.  Unfortunately, I had to fly back to Tres Lagoas to visit the Federal Police here, because this is where I had registered the first time.  And because something was screwed up in the Federal Police system and they had no record of my registering back in 2009.  Even though this is my 3rd trip into Brazil since registering in August of last year...  But now all of that is sorted out and I will be able to re-enter Brazil in Feb using my new RNE and my emergency passport, and the letter that the Federal Police here issued me should be enough to convince Delta that Ive got permission to enter Brazil so they will let me on the plane.

And thankfully Ive got a smart, resourceful, capable, (and beautiful) wife back home who can help me get through this.  Jacquis taking care of switching the password on all the important websites and buying me replacement items to have ready for when I come home at the end of next week...since Ill only be home for about a day before I need to leave again for Russia!

So since Im without a computerand camera, Im not going to be updating the blog for a week or so.  And learn from me...NEVER let your guard down, even for a little while.  I mean, who gets their stuff stolen while theyre changing a tire?!?!?

I was wondering how long it would take! Bad luck. When I lived in Brasil it was almost par for the course, and that was 30 years ago. It must be worse today.

Why did you not call AAA and get them to change your tire. :) I hate that that happen to you. We are looking at something called cloud to keep our back up data on. I am glad you are not hurt..

bro I am so sorry to hear that happened to you. You have to be vigilant but people can be crazy at times. Hope it doesn't happen to you again. travel safe. I have a bad story from amsterdam as well. I was involved in a fight, I didnt start it. we stopped by this casino, I walked up to an empty slot machine, put in 2 euro next thing I know I am being hit by some drunken dutch guy. I immediately got the upper hand but security came right away before it got really nasty. long story short I got my 2 euro back and we had to leave the casino. It was pretty messed up.

It sucks...but life goes on. I would called AAA but they only will travel 100 miles for free for me ;)

At least I didn´t mugged. You stay safe over there Kacper...the guy probably wouldn´t have picked the fight with you if you didn´t look like such easy pickin´s :)

Brazilian thieves are often quite accomplished. We we lived in Rio, our car was robbed. The thieves actually removed the back hatch window, looted the contents of the car (fortunately no documents were taken) and then carefully placed the complete window back inside on the rear seat of the car.
