Last minute trip....decided I wanted to go take Jacqui to see a Broadway show while I was in Alabama.  At first I thought I'd take her to see the Rockettes in the Christmas Spectacular, but she wasn't really interested in that.  So then we decided to go see Wicked!  She's wanted to see it for a while and since I'm not sure if I'm leaving for Russia soon or not, this may be the last chance we get to go for the next 4 or 5 months.

Took the train down to the city in the morning on Tuesday.  Then enjoyed our walk of about 12 blocks to get to the hotel.  The Amsterdam Court Hotel is right across the street from Gershwin Theatre on 50th St.  Which was why we picked it (that and it was fairly cheap...for NYC).  And they also had a great sounding restaurant on the first floor.  Natsumi is a Zagat rated sushi place (oooh, aaahh!), and it was really tasty, but on the expensive side.  After we checked in, we walked over to Rockefeller Plaza to see the tree and the skating rink...but man it was like a cattle auction with all the people in there.  So we hid out in Brookstones for a bit and browsed.

Then we got all fancied up after dinner and went out to see Wicked.  It was a really good show, much better than the original in my opinion.  The place was packed for being a Tuesday night!

Then we met up with Rose and Pete, two friends from college that now both live in Manhattan.  We walked around for a little while trying to find a wine bar that was open but kept being foiled by early closing hours (strange for the city that never sleeps).  Finally we settled on a good Irish pub to enjoy our desserts and drinks.

It actually started raining on us on the walk back to the hotel.  But luckily it was trash day so Jacqui and I picked up a couple flattened cardboard boxes and used them as umbrellas.

The next day we wanted to walk to the UN and take the tour after checking out of the hotel.  But when we got there we saw the lines and I didn't want to have to worry about explaining to security why I had my big knife with me and what all was in our suitcase.  So then we just walked around back over to Broadway near Penn Station and just people watched for a while until it was time to catch the train back.

When we got back into Saratoga, it had snowed about 6 inches and the car had been plowed in a little.  Luckily Jacqui bought new gloves while we were in NYC so she got to clean the car off instead of me :)
