Where I stayed
We actually had to take a tender into the port from the cruise ship. We almost didn't stop in Monaco because there were 30 foot swells in the morning and the Captain didn't want to risk having any of his passengers falling out of the tender. But luckily it calmed down for us. We didn't need any excursions for this trip, just wanted to walk around and see everything we could see in the short time alotted to us (last tender back to the ship was 15:30). Rick and Kiwani (the couple we met on the train) came with us in the morning we walked up to the top of Monaco to the palace. From their we could see the Kart Race that was going on at the Monte Carlo F1 track. Those have to be the quickest go-carts I've seen
We headed right back down the other side of the mountain to the Prince's Automobile Museum. This was the prince that married Grace Kelly way back in the 1950s. I wish I had my own little kingdom and casino so I could buy cool cars! Split up with Rick and Kiwani at this point as Kiwani wanted to go in search of a bikini.
We managed to catch the changing of the guard at the Palace (still not as cool as in Sweden). Then we rode on one of the little tourist "trains" to see the rest of the city and get the lay of the land. It was a fairly good value as it showed you a lot of Monaco.
From the docks where the tenders landed, there was a water taxi that would take you across the harbor to right below the casino. It was only 1 Euro each to take the taxi so we hopped on to get over to the casino. About half way over, I realized I left my jacket back at the other side so I had to ride back over to get it and then ride back again. The operators were nice though and didn't charge me any extra! From the casino side of the harbor it was tricky finding the casino. Its way up at the top of the hill and there isn't any clear walkway to get up to it
Now I had been dressed nicely all day just so I could go in the Monte Carlo Casino. Then we got there and I found out that they charge 10Euro just to get into the main part of the casino! But they have a slot machine room outside of the main part of the casino that you can get in for free. Jacqui took 100Euro and turned it into 215Euro. And I took 10Euro and lost it very quickly.
We decided to try a different route back to where the tenders were docked and we kept getting blocked by road and walkway closures for the Kart race. We were the third to last couple to get on the very last tender back to the cruise ship!
