Sailing trip down the Pearl River...to Hong Kong!

We finally did find the Lian Hua Shan port in the morning. The taxi driver knew how to get to the general area...but he didn't know exactly how to get to the port. He kept stopping and asking people who just kept pointing in the same direction. So after a 130RMB taxi ride, we arrive at the Pan Yu/Lian Hua Shan port. Jacqui went up and started asking the ticket agent about the tickets while I helped get the taxi unloaded. After finally getting all the bags out and up the stairs to the entrance, I go inside and Jacqui has already got the right times and class of ticket arranged...now just for the money.
It wasn't that bad actually. It was 165RMB each for 1st class. The equivalent of $25USD...that's for a 2 hour ferry ride. The ride wasn't bad at all. A little choppy towards the end when we got out to the open water around Hong Kong. But the ferry took us directly to the China Ferry Terminal...which is about 3 steps away from the Check-in desk at the Royal Pacific Hotel. Seriously...you come through immigration at the ferry terminal, get your bags, walk past the customs agents (didn't stop us even though we had 3 huge bags and 2 backpack size bags). Then you come out, walk to your left and take an escalator up to the check-in desk.
Check-in was a breeze. Especially since I'd booked us in an Executive Club room. Basically, the extra HK$100 that it cost got us a great room, concierge service, free breakfast (didn't get to use though), and free cocktails in the evening. Oh, and a 50% discount at the Pierside restaurant (which we did use...that was an awesome feed)
So after check-in, we were hungry so we went and had the seafood brunch at the Pierside. Great decor, live entertainment, and an awesome setup. Lots of sushi and fingerfoods were served buffet style. There was a choice of 3 entrees. And a dessert bar that I would have paid full fare for just for that. It was a little expensive though. We drank only water, and after our 50% off, the bill came to HK$357. Or $46USD for the both of us. So if we hadn't had the discount, that would've been over $90USD for 2 people.
Then after lunch, we decided to go take a trip to Macau...see the next posting
