Happy Birthday to Me!

I was concerned my Birthday was going to be one of infamy, but turns out the Lord sent me a present. Gloria, our host's office appointed tour guide determined it was my birthday and insisted Pat and I go with her and her family on a trip Sunday. So when I woke up early today they came to our flat and picked us up in the family van. I think part of the fun was that we didn't really know where we were going and what it was we'd do there. I think Pat was worried, but I for one was ready for an adventure and excited for the opportunity. We headed south out of the city and soon we were stopped in traffic by some wandering cows. Yep, definitely in the provinces at this point, I was so excited to be out of the diesel cloud city of Manila. Gradually we drove up and up and further up which is when Gloria explained our destination. Tagaytay City, is near the Taal Lake which surrounds Taal Volcano near the center of the lake. The volcano has been dormant, but is not one that scientists suggest they turn their backs on as it is potential very violent as its caldera is tremendous. http://www.iml.rwth-aachen.de/Petrographie/taal.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taal_Volcano I was thrilled! One of my goals in coming to Manila was to journey out and see some of the volcano's here. Perhaps it was a lucky guess or just a normal tourist location but it was as close to a birthday wish as I had and I consider myself very blessed to have the opportunity. We were also blessed with the fact that Taal lake was only partly clouded, when normally hidden in the clouds... my pictures of the volcano turned out rather well considering most people don't get to see it from this altitude. Most travel to it's base in boats across the lake. Attached here are pictures of our trip there and back... I apologize if some of them are blurry, they were taken from long running MOV files that I took while we were driving. Rather than post these rather fast and frantic and large MOV files I decided to capture key images from them and post those instead. They are decent quality but not as good as the camera takes directly. I hope you all enjoy as much as I did. God Bless!

Thanks! (reply) Jan 24, 2008 01:22 EST by big_d
Appreciate the B-day wishes everyone.
Yes it was a little humid, but since the temperature was far lower up on the mountains it wasn't bad at all.. very similar to Rockies in Denver.. different view of course. -DR

Looks like you had an excellent birthday party! Was it humid out there because some of the shots looked like it was steamy.
