We have arrived! After a very chill and easy flight the 15 women from the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue arrived to Ben Gurion airport at around 5:15pm today. We were awake and excited to finally have arrived after months of anticipation. All of us got through customs and passport control with no problem and were met by our guide Kayla at the arrival hall. We boarded our bus for the week with Avi the bus driver and headed to the Jaffa port. The first views of the meditteranean sea were breathtaking as the sun was setting. We got down from the bus and gathered as a group to learn about how for many many years Jaffa was the sight where so many first step foot on to Israel or Palestine as it was called when the port was active. We learned about the history of Jaffa oranges and tasted the sweetness of the fruit. Rabbi Kane then led us in a short little text study and we all put our arms around one another to mark the momeny of arrival with shechiyanu. We then headed to the hotel for dinner and post long plane trip unwinding. After dinner we gathered for a short service of memory and honor for Yom HaShoah, holocaust rememberance day. And then some of us who still had some energy went for a walk along the beach.
