Savannah. Does it ring a bell? Yes it does!
Its where Forest Gump sat on the bench waiting for the bus. Its
also where piratically the entire movie was filmed. So for the guy with
the Bubba Gump Shrimp hat, you know he is going to like this place.
Got the train with Jessica (the Aussie girl) at 5am in the
morning. The guy from the hostel gave us a lift there, for a fee
though. The Amtrak train is so much better than the bus for so many
people is so much better. Im going to complain more about the buses
later so i will hold off for now!
The train was so quick that we arrived in Savannah at 7am. The
motel was way too expensive and we didn't know where to stay so we
camped out in front of the visitors centre in the cold, waiting for it
to open. We looked like bums trying to keep warm. Especially myself
with a beard and a mullet.
Ended up staying at an "ex-hostel" now pensione, that sorta still
runs as a hostel (has a dorm room). The guy who ran it was nice but a
bit weird. He stopped running the hostel because he does not like the
sort of people that stay in hostels
second what we were doing. A bit stalkeress. Bumped into the only other
person staying there, a girl from Holland called Iris, who pronounced
her name Irish. Thus I called her Irish.
It was Australia day. So we went out to celebrate. Found a place
on the river, it had a sign saying it had the cheapest beers in town.
Theres lots of wierd crap beers in the states. All so flat. Tried
fosters for the first time. Its so so. And because of a change of
staff, we ended up only paying for one jug.
There isnt too much to do in Savannah, apart from walk around this
amazing town and see the most beautiful parks you have ever seen and go
to some bars and listen to yocals called Buddy talk about how much they
love Australia and want to go see the Australian Jungle
pool to be played (im playing the best pool of my life at the moment!).
See you at the WORKERS!!
Now you may be thinking. Brett why do you get so behind on this
stupid blog thing. Well its because America is the most stuffed up
country in the world. Its go the most homeless, the worst bus system,
and the worst internet setup! There is no internet cafes anywhere! Its
all WIFI. So if you dont have a laptop, your screwed. If there is an
internet cafe. Its about 12 bucks an hour! The only free place, is a
hostel (if there is one) or the library. Library's suck because you
have to reserve a computer and compete with the homeless, just for half
an hour usage! Except for Savannah. Savannah you just walk in and use
said i had been on for over 4 hours and the limit was 2. That was BS
because i had only been on for like an hour and a half and she wasn't
even there when i came in. I protested! But she made me leave. The next
day i went back and she said i shouldn't be allowed to go on because i
was on all day yesterday. Maybe its the mullet and the beard. I just
dont know. But the big momma was talking with her friend who was also
on the computer, so i think there is something dodgy going on with big
Every time I walked around Savannah, I always ended up in the same
thing that sucked about this place is that there chair has been taken
out and they have put a garden in its place.
On my last day there when everyone had left i just sat in this
park for hours pondering. With the forrest gump music playing in my
head and an imaginary leaf flying in the air. I realised that im
done.... Ive done everything and more that I wanted to do in this trip.
Sitting on a bench like forrest gump in Savannah was the last thing I
"had" to do. I decided that I wasn't going to try and work anymore and
just buy a 30 day bus pass, borrow a couple of grand from home and just
