New Orleans

Another night another Greyhound bus. This time a better one with only one stop at midnight for an hour. Left around 9pm going south through Alabama. Meaning that there was a lot of Alabamians on the bus. You really heard some thick southern accents on this bus. Not a looker among them. You really get some weird looking people on the greyhounds. Its the pleb bus.

I walk on the bus with my Bubba Gump Shrimp hat and a guy i think from Brunswick (where all the shrimp boats are) says "ayee where ya get that there hat?"  He was amazed by it.  Like that it immortalised his home town.

Arrived in New Orleans at 5:30 in the morning. Luckily there was a subway there, so i killed some time. Still struggling to eat with a infected mouth. It reached its peak in New Orleans. I was just drinking pain killers. The pain killers here are scary, covered in warnings about stomach bleeding and stuff. Its the same with ads on tv for panadol type tablets. They talk about the pros of the drug for 5 seconds, then spend the other 25 seconds explain all the things that could go wrong. Its like the law that they have to say it on the ad.

It was still too early after my subway visit and i was kicked out of the greyhound for not waiting for a bus so i headed over to the hostel. They have street cars in new orleans and a pshyco guy was internally exploding going "neahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" out loud and then looking at his mood ring because the street car was late. Arrived at my hostel, checked out new orleans for a bit (headed to the bubba gump store!) then went back and slept all day and all night.  Woke up and it was 2 am in the morning. The hostel was average. Hurricane damaged or just crapish i dont know. It was all weirdo long termers and a tv lounge with one couch and some bastard stole my spaghetti. Then when i was looking for it, some big fat american called me dumb for losing it. You know the big fat kind with that stupid moustache and goatee combined thing that makes them look like an idiot.

Between the mouth infection and the stolen spaghetti I was a bit peeved with New Orleans. There was the french quarter, but nothing was really going on there. It was like the workers on a week night. The French quarter I think, doesnt seem that good at all once youve been to
amsterdam. Its just lots of bars next to each other and at one end theres a few strip joints and hustler hollywood shop, which i didnt gointo... Ok it sounds alright then. But it was raining and empty and i had my wisdom tooth coming through! On the outside of the french quarter it has the suburbs. The suburbs look like the hurricane hit the day before. Everything is run down and smashed apart from the french quarter. It just looks erry. I should have gone around and taken pictures of the areas but I was feeling awlful and it didnt feel safe to go around snapping pics of peoples misfortunes. Plus it was ranning and there seemed to be homeless everywhere.

I went to buy a post card from my Grandma and it said 30 cents for 1 and 4 for a dollar. I thought alright i will just get one. Grabbed one and went to pay and this guy goes. Im not going to open my cash draw for 30 cents. I said alright then you get nuffin!! .. Youpoof!.. Well didnt say that. I just went no worries and left. Starting to get sick of the american rudeness! Wheres my southern hospitality!

Walk around New Orleans and you are bound to get at least 3 or 4 people a day asking you for a quarter. In fact walk around anywhere in the states and all you see are homeless. I have not gone a single day so far in the states without someone asking me for a quarter, and it seems wrong that 99% have been black. Why is it that the black are the poor and the white are the rich. White people dont seem to walk the streets, they all have cars. Greyhound, passengers are on average i reckon 80% black. Thats because its the cheapest way to travel. Drivers are 80% black. Every single fast food place from Maccas to subway to dennys to krystals, i haven't been served by a white person yet. Only Black or mexican. It seems so strange to me. Movies and tv never show such a clear difference. They always put the token black guy or mix it up so its a bit of everything. America just seems stuffed up. Ive never
seen so many homeless people in any country, or had so many people ask me for money. Not even in Egypt or in Asia, and New Orleans is a hole with a tacky french quarter for tourists. America when you see it via Greyhound doesn't seem to be the greatest country in the world that's for sure. But i do like it still.

I left New Orleans, not having partied at all. But i like togo crazy in the smaller places. I also found out that the day after I left was the day the Marti Gra was to begin. Dammm

I do recommend going to New Orleans, but just not in the winter! It was so cold the entire time.
