18.14 - The Kaitiki shuttle bus picked me up this morning at 09.00 and took us to the base where we were briefed on the rafting and kitted out. Then it was a short drive to the Kaikura river and the start of the rafting. Pretty soon we were on our way down the river following the instructions of our guides. Shortly we came to our first waterfall which was fun to go down although it was only 3m high. It was not long before we got to the best part of the ride, a 7m waterfall! We tossed a fern leaf and it landed silver side up, which meant we were going to fall off when we went down, then paddled over the edge. Miraculously we did not fall out although it was a bumpy ride. It was awesome! As we went down the river, we were given the chance to jump out of the raft and float down the river and over a waterfall which was quite scary. Lastly we were able to surf the 'surf' the small waterfalls which was fun. We even managed to do a 360 degree spin on one too. When we got back to base, I bought the photos for $40 but you got 50 pictures. Back in Rotorua, I finished replying to all my e-mails and did a bit of shopping. Tonight we are going to have a stir-fry for tea and then watch a movie. Shiloh, Sarah Jo and Sebastian are leaving tomorrow but I am going to stay until Wednesday so I will have a bit of time to fill.
