18.32 - At first today looked as though it was going to be pretty shite but in fact it turned out ok. After an early start, I am getting back into my old routine, I did all the necessary (shit, shower, shave etc!) then I went into town. The weather up until now has been has been cloudy and dull but then, against all predictions, the sun came out. From then on we had more or less nothing but sun and for this reason I decided to do the Bay Of Islands tour. I had a bit of spare time beforehand so I spent this time writing postcards and eating bakers' food (the pies out here are excellent)! The prices up here are considerably cheaper than in Auckland with the exception of internet use which I found at the ridiculous price of $9 for an hour. When we got on the ferry we found that it was definitely worth the $55 we paid for it. After a few brief stops and running commentary from the captain about some of the islands and their privately owned houses and land, we got to the hole in the rock. This was very impressive and sailing through it was spectacular although a little rough. Thankfully I was not sick and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I took lots of photos and even used my video camera! On the way back we stopped on one of the islands where we climbed to the summit to see great views. After this, it was time to go back home (the hostel) where I watched the end of Misery. In the evening we took advantage of happy hour in the near bar. There was a table shuffleboard there which kept us busy for most of the evening especially when we played against some birds!
