Back to Hanoi
Lunch in a local Vietnamese restaurant and then a 3 hour bus ride back to Hanoi.
Christina, Chloe, Kyle, Mel and I had dinner at the Mocha Cafe (recommended in the trusty Lonely Planet guide). Western food - not too bad. Kyle had to fly out so we said goodbye to him and met up with John and Lisa. Headed of to the Funky Monkey where we met Troy and Andrew - from Melbourne of all places, both living in the UK. Also met a few of their friends from Ireland and Dan from the UK.
After a few Long Island Ice Teas
Andrew, Mel, Bev and Dan at the Funky Monkey
After a few more Long Island Ice Teas
After a few too many Long Island Ice Teas (Mel!!!!) a few of us decided to check out the "Apocolapse Now" night club. It was a very weird place. Full of local Vietnamese people dancing atrociously to really bad techno music. We were the only tourists. The place had some guards in uniforms walking around keeping an eye on people. On the dance floor we were told we couldn't dance because we had a drink. Then we were told to get off the dance floor because we were holding hand bags. So we ditched the "Apocolapse Now" and headed off in search of another place.
One of the only places open was a street stall next to our hotel. The people there called us over and Andrew, Mel and I joined them on some plastic chairs for a few beers and vodka!! cheers! chook mai! They were sooooo friendly. Made us fried rice and kept giving us more beers. They didn't want us to pay them, but we insisted.
Drinks on a street stall at 2am
The chef, Andrew my new big brother and me
One of them spoke a little bit of Chinese. None of them spoke English. Drank til 4am in the morning. We thought the chef was gay as he kept sitting next to Andrew and paying him extra attention. After a while we figured the chef thought I was pretty but I told him that Andrew was my big brother and he didn't allow me to date anyone. So the chef was actually trying to impress Andrew, not hit on him. The chef actually called over another guy to interpret to make sure we knew he wasn't gay.
Was one crazy and FUN night in Hanoi.

All that beer....and I don't even like beer
Chook Mai! Cheers!
