As the plane was landing into Tokyo, I looked out the window and the sun was setting. It was a bright, RED circle. They were playing Nelly Furtado's "I'm like a bird". And I felt a sudden rush of excitement, freedom and anticipation. Sounds corny... but a great feeling to have.
Konnichi-wa!!!! First stop - Tokyo, Japan. It's an amazing place.
I'm staying with Owen and his flatmate Visal in a tiny wee 1 bedroom apartment in Koenji. Pretty easy to get around.
Went to dinner to eat pizza (yes my first meal in Japan was pizza) in a tiny cafe that looked like it was built for hobbits. Had to bend to get through the door and climb steep ladder to eat in a loft like area.

My horoscope today said that "You're going to fly away, that's a certainty.....Wondering whether you would actually come back? That's a thought to keep you going. As changes come fast and furious you develop an internal calm."
Spent the day walking around in awe in the Shinkjuku district, admiring the shops and the crazy Japanese sense of fashion. I spent at least 2 hours walking in the underground train stations at Shinjuku alone - so much shops.

Finally crashed back at the apartment around 5:30pm. Relaxed after a nice cold shower and the air. con. turned ON.
Owen, Visal and I went to eat curry for dinner. I had a black squid ink curry. yum. And then for dessert I had black sesame seed ice cream. Double yum.

Stopped by a pet store specialising in creepy crawlies such as toads, snakes, big bugs, lizards and spiders.

Hi there Bev,
This travel blog is awesome - my god I cannot believe the local pet shop! Like nothing we have here...usually have to get those illegally!
Hmm not so sure about the squid ink dinner there...how is the new place? Do you have pics of it?
Take care Meghan
