After Cuzco, we jumped another flight to Puerto Maldonado to explore around the Amazon. To our surprise the flight was delayed again. Finally, we arrived to Puerto Maldonado and it felt like we entered a new country... the architecture was completely different and even the people looked slightly different... also in Puerto Maldonado about 90% (or seems like) of its residents drive motorcycles. We then took a 45 minute boat ride down the Madre De Dios river to Tambopata. We stayed at this really nice lodge (Reserva Amazonica) that was situated along the river and slightly tucked away in the jungle. The lodge had no electricity in the rooms (fire canisters were used for lights), the showers only had cold water (which felt nice due to the humidity), and the beds were surrounded by mosquito nets (thank goodness!). Haha... Doesn´t it sound great? The Reserva Amazonica was extremely nice... it was relaxing, the food was delicious, and the service was awesome (highly recommended).

During the day, we took a tour of the Lake Sandoval, went on a hike through the Amazon, and walked across there rainforest canopy. Most of Peru is made up of the Amazon (60% of the land) and it's suppose to be the most beautiful part of the jungle too. It has over 270,000 plant species and probably has just as many (or more) species in animals and insects. Throughout our day trips, we were able to see caimans, otters, monkeys, and tons of different types of birds.

The Amazon is a cool place... I could've spent a lot more time here exploring the land. I guess, I have to come back and see it again...

Loved the pictures and updates, everything looked and sounded phenomenal!! Safe Travels to the three of you as you make it back to Good old AZ! Oh and Poombah died his hair black, he is going through a phase!!??
