Horse riding and swimming
Entry 11 of 23 | show all | print this entry |
Arrived at our second beach stop in Malawi yesterday, called Kande Beach...although as the sign says Kande Beach...more than just a campsite! It is a very nice campsite right on the beach. Apparently crocs have been sighted in the lake but its great for swimming and snorkelling. This morning at 6am I did a sun rise horse ride across the beach and through the villages which was so great, just me and a guide. I even managed to canter and trot most of the way. In the villages the kids all shout horsey horsey and chase after the horses, along with the dogs and hens and monkeys We caused mayhem all the way but it was really fun and nice to go through the villages and forests. The women were all out in the fields with the babies strapped on their backs tending the fields or walking carrying water on their head. The men do not do this work apparently! I saw a girl probably about 6years old with a massive water bucket on her head and another under her arm! She still managed to use her free hand to wave at me and say hello! I was definately entertaining the locals this morning! We finished the ride on the beach and i even went swimming with the horse/wjhilst trying to stay on the horse! Very odd xperience, which amused the rest of my truck alot- they were just finishing breakfast so all came to watch! Right back to the beach and maybe some swimming. Tough few days ahead thats for sure!
Stu- think the rest of the truck is also planning on staying at the Meridian hotel in nairobi too! Should be fun, have a great holiday!
