Spent 2 days back to back on the truck travelling across S.Africa to the north of Botswana....heres a day in the life!!
Get up about 6am, possibly am freezing although the weather has warmed recently. Have to pack up and get the tent back in the tiny tent bag...technique is improving and then try to change my clothes which isn't easy when you have slept in most of your clothes but anyway u get the idea. Then we have cereal, yes i do eat the longlife full fat milk, i am maturing, and we try to do toast on the dying fire embers whilst also doing dishes and packing everything into the truck. 7am ish depending on how slow we are- we think we are very fast but our guide is not so sure we get on the road. Drive for 3hours and enjoy the beautiful countryside, and then stop, which continues all day until 5pm. Get pulled over about twice a day by police men whop need a cheekcy bribe to avoid a fine and to let us pass. The first time it happened we were shocked/concerned now we only notice that our sleep/card games have been interrupted! Africa is a crazy place! On sat i had my first, need the toilet at roadside in africa experience, where we stopped for lunch adn no toilets or even bushes for miles! Not ideal. All the girls on the truck were not happy but grinned and bared all for the roadside truckers pleasure. Was not my favourtie experience but definately amusing when with a group of people you have just met. Truck life makes you very intimate very fast! At 5pm when we get to camp its time to unpack, get the tents up and SPRINT for a shower- the earlier the more chance of hot water/beating the Q! Sun goes down about 6pmish so then we start cooking/BBQing and chilling out around the campfire for the evening. usually the campsite bar or offlicence will provide some alcohol to help ease off the 'stressful day'. Certainly its a strange and tiring way to live but i'm really starting to enjoy it (possibly because i am now at vic falls and won't be on the truck for 4days?!!). Oo outta time, off to booze cruise on the zambeze, my spelling is awful, will update in few days. Can't say what i'm doing tomo but super excited and little scared...love to you all x x x

Hey Bex! Grrr
Wowee, talk about some stories to make the rest of us green. I have finally figured out this travel pod thing and now have even got good enough to post a comment so I'm feeling pretty smug.
Night safari is cool is it not? We did one last time I was in Africa, but I can't remember what park (maybe Kruger, maybe Londelozi - I know they are only about a million miles apart!!)
Sounds like you are having a fab time. HOw many people are you trucking with? Are you going to Zimbabwe since you're at the falls (if so please do not get shot). My adventures this summer are limited to going to Croydon (zone 6 not cool) to walk my dad's dog and some days off in a couple of weeks that I have just found out my whole fa,ily will be in Germany for (again not cool).
Take care, can't wait to see all your (that's a lion there, and there, and that might be a weildebeast pictures!),
Lots of love, hannah xxxxxxxxxxxx
