Second attempt to record Day 1 in Germany. I'll blame it on the Riesling for losing attempt #1.

We were pretty proud of ourselves navigating out of Frankfurt airport, thinking we’d understood what Lady GPS was telling us.  And felt pretty stoopid and frustrated never mind weary after circling the same little town 3 times!!  Wiesbaden (actually on the last go round we realized we weren’t even in Wiesbaden!! but another town Neuhaf – we will NEVER return but in hindsight it was hilarious as we got caught in a small town parade and had to reverse quickly when a huge bird duck came at us down a tiny street – too slow to catch it on camera…and so the stories beginJ.  Thanks to Hertz for the smallest letters on a map I went blind trying to find the miniscule town we were headed for but SUCCESS! Decided to stick to autobahns and ignore Ms. GPS as she tried to get us to go cross country on teeney roads.  A3 to A48 and quick route down down to the river valley to Cochem – cute town and will be the bike ride destination for lunch tomorrow.  Drove directly to Beilstein (there are 4 Beilstein’s in Germany so as we drove in circles we were sure I’d plugged in the wrong one and we’d end up in France!).

Caught a few z’s and then ahhh, the heavenly local Riesling, sweet, medium or dry.  Rich tried the stroganoff – was ok, salad’s were terrific and I had the curly trout (see pic) after small starter of Goulash soup (yum!)– heh – will serve trout this was in future as it makes it super simple to peel away from the bones – clever Germans.  Flavour nothing like our rainbow trout Tim/Mike/Dan but a nice light meal. The hotel restaurant is right on the river – warm pleasant evening, just heavenly sitting and listening to German chatter as this seems to be a destination for German folk.

What is it that enchants us so about Europe??  Could it be so simple that we are so relaxed (yup even Rich) that we "see and feel" so much more?  The oldest and uniqueness of these small towns are incredibly appealing – maybe it’s just that but all too often  we just take huge breaths, give thanks for the gift of being here and smile….

Up to our absolutely delightful room in Hotel Haus Lippman overlooking the Mosel River – fresh white walls, dark wooden timbers,  gorgeous linens and comfy beds - had sleeping pills and a great sleep!
