It's Independence Day but no one really cares because I'm on the other side of the world. I'm still a proud American though! I think it is a testament to the greatness of America if I can still be proud of my country despite all the shitty stuff we've done in the past and the less than perfect reputation we have the world over. Basically it comes down to governments (which are publicly elected but become so removed from the general public once in office) acting poorly.
I think that while the label of 'American' does carry with it negative connotations most people understand that as an individual I'm not personally guilty of my countries offences. On the other hand there is a definite respect that many people have for Americans. Many people who have this respect, especially Australians, who are from their own westernized country, are bitter about it and don't want to admit that they're partial towards America. In the end how could they not be when such a high percentage of the media they are exposed to and the products and culture they consume are from America. It's interesting to learn how being a certian nationality automatically brings with it pre-determined opinions and stereotypes but hopefully, and I do think that mostly, people try to see you as an individual first.
Because I have so many pictuers to post I am matching them up with the different entries, and this entry gets the party pictures, since the 4th of July is a time to celebrate.
