UYWAY
Entry 90 of 90 | show all | print this entry |
Hello Everyone!
As some of you might remember, when I was in Peru, I wrote about an organisation called 'Uyway'. Now, Uyway has been founded by Olga, one of the ladies who taught in the kindergaten I worked in, Olga has invested a lot of her own money to build a school in the mountains surrounding Cusco, in order to teach the mountain children: giving them the free education that the government fails to provide. Olga had to give up her job in order to teach the Andean children, but she relies on volunteers all year round to help her out. She and I have been in regular contact since I went to Peru, and she has asked me if I could send out feelers to see if there is anyone that would like to go and help out... so I am asking you, if you know a friend, that knows a friend, that knows ANYONE who is thinking about taking a gap year or a career break, or even an exciting (and rewarding) summer holiday, please tell them about this opportunity!
Olga would provide accommodation, food and even spanish lessons in return for volunteering. And this sort of volunteering - organized directly with the charity founder, means that the extortionate amount of money (£1250 in my case) that UK companies charge to 'set up your gap year' is saved. Olga is not out there to rip anyone off, she is genuinely lovely and has a heart the size of a house. If anyone is interested, please, please let me know.
The website can be found at www.uyway.org however, the site is in Spanish, so if anyone has any specific queries, please contact me at bethanymarston@hotmail.co.uk and I will be delighted to explain further.
Lots of love, Bethany.
