Guy Ellison´s day :)

Ok, so I have already related the somewhat shady nature of the Peruvian Police force, but today my opinion of them dropped to an all time low.

Anna´s phone went missing a few weeks ago, and we all assumed it was just misplaced, unfortunately though, someone has stolen it and run up 120pounds of calls since it went missing. I went with Anna to act as translator and help to report the theft to the Police, and they just said:
"...We don´t believe you... you are just two white girls trying to blame a Peruvian for your own stupidity..."
Yep. I didn´t really appreciate that. The temptation to say: "My Daddy is a better Policeman that you!" was sooooooo strong.

Instead we pursued the issue, which lead to Anna having her fingerprints taken, and the police threatening to come to our house and interrogate us one at a time!

It soon became clear that the Police didn´t believe us and weren´t prepared to help us, so we left the station, let down and more than a little tearful. Having spoken to our Peruvian friends, we have since learnt that the Tourist Police are even more corrupt than the normal Police in Peru! Apparently they often threaten tourists with the fact that they can ´prove´ that they are making a false claim for insurance reasons, and ask for money to help cover up their ´crime´. The only ´crime´ we made, was thinking we could trust the Police here!

Grrrr. Lots of love, Bethany xxxxxx

Grrr. Muchos besos, Bethany xxxxxx

You will be really savvy now when you go travelling - a thing that I hope you and George will do a lot of in the future.
