Pam Martin´s day :)

I should have known something was wrong when the taxi driver started crossing himself, and stroking the rosary beads dangling from his interior mirror.
As we approached San Blas (the tiny square where I live), the traffic condensed and became a sea od angry beeps and flashing lights. Eventually we turned the corner to where San Blas should have been, only to be confronted with hundreds of people packed together, bodies gyrating, arms outstreched towards the.... stage. A rock concert. Under my window.
Exhausted by my long day, I fought my way to the door and collapsed on my bed, only to be greeted by the sickly-sweet smell of roasted guinea-pig, wafting up to where I lay, trying to sleep.
As if this wasn´t enough, almost as soon as I had managed to doze off, I was rudely awoken to the sound of an angry demonstration. I was rather hopeful that it might an animal welfare group saying:
"...Eat cake not cuy!..." (´Cuy´ is the Peruvian word for guinea-pig).
(I attribute my lack of sleep to the fact that I lost my senses and momentarily believed that animal welfare groups existed in Peru...). It wasn´t. It was a demonstration about the lack of governement support for schools.
Don´t get me wrong, I´m all for freedom of speech. Just not at 5.30am. And not on my doorstep. Joke :) XxXxX

XxXxX
