I am still alive! In fact I am completely rejuvenated. Ive been here in Milazzo in Sicily having a true vacation. My friend Christina has an awesome place right on the beach (literally all you can see from her kitchen window is the beach and the beautiful islands) here in Sicily. Right now in my opinion she is the smartest person I know for having a place here. The sea has the clearest water Ive seen and the strangest thing is one day it can be completely calm, and the next have huge waves. And to top it all off, there is this magnificent castle on a hill on the peninsula.

Ive loved staying in one place for so long and not having to move my bag from place to place and having my own person tour guides really allows me to see the real city. The one thing im trying to get used to is all the food I have to eat. Im hooked on Italian coffee (yes, me liking coffee) which starts out the morning and seems to follow most of the meals Ancient Church

. But lunch is so much food! The first time I got served lunch at Christinas boyfriends parents house, they gave me a plate of pasta which was delicious. I ate it and though wow that was a good lunch. Little did I realize that was just the beginning of lunch. Then came meat, then fruit, and coffee, and theres always so much. Then around 9pm its time to eat again; a meal as big if not bigger than lunch. It really is a lot of work let me tell you. Oh and the desserts. if you ever come to Sicily - take my word for it, eat a Granita everyday at least. Its the best thing Ive ever had. Ive gotten into the flow of having things close from 1pm until 5pm when EVERYONE goes home for lunch. Its also the hottest part of the day so you do have to be inside.

Christinas boyfriend (Marco aka Charlie) lives in Milazzo and his family is there as well. They have been astonishing me with all of their English skills. Not only do they have the vocabulary, but there grammar is better than a lot of Americans. Theyve inspired me to go home and learn a language.

I have loved not having to plan this part of the vacation and everyone has been so incredibly kind to me. Thank you Christina for your excellent "hostel" (5 stars in my opinion), Marco for the constant entertainment, Maria for the inspiration to learn another language, Aldo for the great cabonata, Claudio and Sara for our great talks (im looking forward to someday making it to malta) Clear clear water

. I hope to see you all soon in America!!

I just finished getting my haircut (I chopped it all off!). I cheated and took christina along to translate for me but I still can say I got an Italian style. At the end I looked in the mirror and didnt recognize myself because of my hair and because I am so incredibly tan. Its great!

Ah, one last piece of advice. You have to at least once in your life attend a disco in Sicily. Im not sure if Christina and I are allowed to ever go to one again, but almost everyday I relive the experience and just start laughing and laughing and laughing. I cant explain it - just come to Sicily and experience it yourself.

Happy belated 4th of July!!

Trip
So at what point will you reveal to everyone that this trip is a hoax and you are really hiding in an apartment in Fairfax, hiring random recent college grads to send pictures of the world once in a while?

Where's the picture?
Okay, I want to see a picture of this 'new Beth'... Come on... You've got your girlfriends reading this blog. You can't tell us you got a new haircut and not post a picture!! :-)
Your trip sounds so amazing. I hope it continues like this! I'm inspired to learn a new language too. I just need to book a trip somewhere so I can actually motivate myself to learn and then get a chance to use it! Keep having fun!!
