I finally made it out of Switzerland. It was actually raining the day i left so it was perfect. Rode the train here which took awhile. I had no place to stay when i got here but a trip to the tourist office and got a place outside the city because apparently everything in the city was booked. Basically have a hotel room with a tv and last night i watched the best movie; parts in french, spanish; and english. I think it was called Laburge Espanol. Even with it mostly in french i was laughing at some parts and couldn't turn it off. Im picking up some french because most of the time i have no one to talk to so i listen to the french. My favorite is when other americans think I am french and dont speak english.
Since my hotel is out of town, ive had to master the bus system and ive managed to take it everywhere i wanted to go without too much trouble. There are a lot of students in this town so when i walk around with my daypack i sort of blend right in
One advantage of being out of the city is that the store prices are so cheap. I discovered I could eat croissants forever- they are so much better here. I forgot to say that when i was cooking in Switzerland i would buy easy to cook things, but half the time i would have to guess at what the directions said. Also sometimes I have no idea what im eating, but its been good for the most part so far.
I went to a chateau today. I want one on the water just like the one i saw. Its so hard to imagine it has been there for hundreds and hundreds of years. I also went into a cathedral in the middle of town that was beautiful. Churches in the US just arent the same.
Ill go to another chateau tomorrow that is enclosed in a walled city. But now its time to go grab a baguette sandwich from the street for dinner - yummy!
So far i seemed to have packed well (knock on wood). my clothes dry incredibly fast and i really want to work for REI when i get back. There stuff is quality. Course i guess i should see how it holds up in seven months. I laugh at the ameatur backpackers who have on jeans and cotten and expect it to dry overnight. Poor kids.
Another day here then off to Spain (hopefully i actually get there this time!)
