Don't worry, I won't always write this often but I just happened to walk by an internet cafe here in Dublin, so I thought I'd stop in. Yesterday I was tired from driving around County Clare all day, but I had decided to stay in a dorm room in a hostel so I knew that if I went to sleep early I would get woken up. I had had so much fun at the bar the previous night, I decided to return there again last night. Since it's summer and Ireland is quite North, it stays light here until after 10pm which I love. I walked down to the same bar, alone, and got a pint of Guinness. Right now, most likely you are saying 'who is this girl?' - Beth actually went back to a bar where people would know her, went alone where she didn't know a soul, and Guinness??? :) They were playing traditional irish music in the back room and I just drank my Guinness and listened. Most girls fall for guys that play the guitar - but apparently it's the banjo that does it for me. The banjo player was so cute and fun to watch. I started talking to an older couple from Maine, then when they left, an older couple from Ennis actually started talking to me. The man was really interesting and the woman was hilarious saying she only went to the US once, to NY and said anyone who lives there is young and crazy. They had lived in Ennis all their life and couldn't beleive that I had never heard of it before (anyone out there heard of it?). They also started talking about how in Europe there is an initiative to get everyone computer litterate by taking these tests that the government pays for. Even the elderly people are supposed to become literate. Well, three hours after I walked in the bar alone, the band had stopped playing and the couple were going home. I wanted to stay and talk to the banjo player but the man said they would walk me home because there would be a lot of people on the street. I asked if it was unsafe, because literally I was walking right down the road. The distance was no greater than from my front door to my mailbox and the people outside were all my age and were not threatening at all. But, they walked me to my hostel and even made sure I knew how to get back to Dublin today. There are still nice people in the world.

When I arrived in Dublin today I tried to turn down the street where my B&B was , and there were police guarding it. I didn't know why but had noticed that a lot of people were wearing Ireland shirts. I just thought the people of Dublin were very spirited. Turns out there's a stadium down the road and there's a big football match. Well after some convincing with the cops (like I obviously wasn't a tourist??) they finally let me drive down the street and go to my B&B. It's run by an indian family with a cute kid who insisted on being the one to show me around. I walked down to temple bar, and I swear things look different than they did three years ago. Maybe I recalling the area after I had paid a visit to the bars ...

Off tomorrow for Germany - no accomodations or plans yet:) I'll figure it out when I get there and will use my German to explain what I want.

Ireland
Beth, good to hear you are doing well and have a good ol' time! Just curious how much does the rental car run in Ireland. I checked for Prague in the past, and it was something like $50/day for a little Fiat Uno with manual :-)

- Peter

PS: the game where the guys chase the ball around the filed for two 45 minute halfs is called soccer. It will help you blend in.
