Hope you are having fun. I bet you are all looking forward to your summer holidays. Well last time i wrote to you all we were off to visit a floating market in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. It was really good. We all got into a boat and then went down the river to the market. There were lots of boats, the bigger ones were selling fruit and vegetables and the smaller boats were buying them. All the big boats used a tall pole which they then hung one of the different types of fruit or vegetable that they were selling. So one boat may have a potatoe and a mango and a cabbage hanging from the pole so that all the people who wanted to buy things knew which boat to sale up to. It was very crowded and fun to sail around.
We then sailed to a coconut sweet making factory. We all got to try the sweets they were really nice and very chewy. The next day we sailed up the river to the boarder where we said goodbye to Vietnam and crossed over into Cambodia.
Cambodia is famous for the temples in Siem Reap but first we went to the Capital City Phnom Phen. In Cambodia they speak Cambodian and to say hello you say Johm Riab Sua and to say thank you you saw aw Kohn ( pronouced aw kun). We know so many different ways to say hello and thank you that sometimes we forget which one to use and say it in the wrong language oops.
Phnom Phen was nice. We went to visit the grand palace which was very similar to the grand palace in Thailand and was very beautiful. We also went to the city museum which had some very old statues in it.
The weather here is ok, but because it is the rainy season like in Vietnam it is raining alot and we got very wet. Especially when Julia and Chris forgot to take their rain coats out. We only stayed a couple of days in Phnom Phen and then went to Siem Reap on the bus. On the way we stopped to buy food and use the toliet and at the side of the road they were selling cooked spiders and crickets. Chris brought a spider and ate it. He said it had very hairy legs and was quite salty. I dont think he liked it very much but i have sent you a picture of him with the spider.
In Siem Reap we went to see the temples. Some of the temples are over 10 000 years old and they were hidden deep in the jungle. They have now been cleared so that people can go and visit them. They are very big and have very steep steps we had to be very careful climbing up and down them. I have sent you lots of photos of them. The main temple is called Angkor Wat and is one of the prettist ones, but my favourite one was the one that still had trees growing in it. Some of the tree have grown on the temples so their roots are all over the walls and its looks really pretty. I have sent a photo of me next to one tree that was growing on top of the temple. One of the other temples has lots of huge faces carved into the rocks. I have sent a photo. Can you see the face? It is very strange, it feels like someone is always watching you. We explored the temples for 2 days and we didnt even see all of them there are that many. It was really good seeing them though.
We are off to Thailand again tommorrow. We are going to fly amd then we are going to the islands in the south of Thailand which should be fun.
Will write again soon Lots of love Bertie Bear, Julia and Chris xxx
