I havent sent this entry to people on the mailing list because it is just a really quick review of the places we have stayed at. I thought it might be useful for a few people that I know are travelling and reading this so here we go!
USA - Vibe Hotel / Banana Hostel (LA / Hollywood)
Great location, in the centre of town, really cheap with good facilities including free internet and free breakfast. DEFINATLY recommended.
Fiji - Skylodge / Nomads (Nadi):
Actual Hostel was nice, clean and comfortable. Not a bad price if you book online, but food is really expensive and nothing comes free. The area really isnt great other than its near the airport. But a nearer place to the airport with free transfers is "down town pack packers" alot cheaper and cheap food places nearbye.
Fiji - Beach House (Near Singatoka):
Best hostel so far! And hard to be topped, I imagine. Loads of free things, and the staff are WICKED! Loads of exclamation marks because this place makes me happy. Free scones, breakfast, sea kayaks. Internet isnt free and its 45 mins away from any shops. But if you stock up on food ( and suncream!) there are cooking facilities. Bus is about 40p or something to town, and its very regular, just abit of a drive. Definatly not the cheapest place you can find, but I would definatly recomment at least two nights.
Fiji - South Seas Private Hotel (Suva):
Cheap and in the middle of town, cookinf facilities. Suva isnt a great place to be but this hostel is right next to the best part of Suva, the museam. Security isnt great, for what can be a dangerous capital. Its quite empty and quiet with nothing to do. I would not recommend this hostel for people travelling on their own.
Fiji - Raintree Lodge (Near Suva):
Cheap and an AMAZING room. Probably the nicest room I have been in. No cooking facilities though, except a kettle and a toaster. (Alot you can do with those though!). Bus ride makes access to Suva easy enough. Food is quite expensive though.
Fiji - Downtown pack packers (Nadi)
No cooking facilities and no free stuff, but you notice it in the price! 3-4 English pound a night. Its clean enough and the staff are nice. Its right in the middle of loads of shops, so plenty of food options.
NZ - Nomads Fat Camal (Auckland)
Really cheap, centre of Auckland, free meal (although definatly a stretch of the imagination to call it a meal, but who can complain at free food.) Free city tour when you get there, which is really good. Loads of people. Generally a nice place although dorm rooms dont all have natural light.
Hope that has helped anyone whos going to any of those places and I will try to keep the hostel side of things fairly up to date.
