Leticia is in the middle of the jungle at the border with Brazil and Peru. The town is on the border of the Amazon river and hundreds of kilometers from civilization. Perfect spot to go for a jungle experience!!
Pilar and I will leave tomorrow morning for a 3 days, 2 nights trip in the jungle, first by boat and then on foot. That should be amazing. Special note for mum: on est encadre et c´est un coin securise donc pas d´inquietude mais pas de contacts jusqu´au 1 decembre au soir (2 decembre en Europe).
1st December and we´re back. The trip was very good and we really enjoyed our time but were hugely disappointed by what they describe as jungle and that is a very young forest, way too humanized to home any interesting animals.
I still have many mental images of Guyana from 20 years ago and taking into account the exaggeration of souvenirs so way back, it was millions times better. During the 3 days, the main wildlife was in the camp with papagayos and monkeys, making the walks boring and frustrating.
Still, there was a jungle feeling and the 2 nights out were a success with cayman spotting the first time and spiders the second. The group was tiny (5 people, including us), the food was good and the guides knowledgeable so we had a good time. Also, on our way back, we saw two pink dolphins in the Amazone river, very lucky.
If you don´t know what the jungle is, never watched animal wildlife on TV, have very low expectations and want to spend a lot of money just to arrive, GO to Leticia. If not, chose another spot!
2nd Dec: Back to Popayan for a couple of days (via Bogota and Cali) before going to drive into Coffee region.
