Last night was freezing and it rained a lot but I decided to go for a good walk in the mountains around. I thought I would struggle with my blisters still a bit soar and the snow that accumulated last night.
Following the recommendation of the "Department Of Conservation", I went for the "Devils Creek Track". I liked the name and it is a demanding 5/6 h walk with a lot of ups and downs. Perfect to "make" the legs and shoes (saying that it is in fact the shoes making my feet would be more accurate) before my 8 days trail in Peru in 3 weeks (only 3 weeks!!!).
It was a good idea to start early to finish early as the clouds were starting to accumulate and it has now been raining since 3pm. It took me just over 4h and it was a really good morning with plenty of fantastic views, plenty of pain in the legs and less than expected in the feet. The sun was here and the snow too (sometimes up to mid calves).
What a pleasure to be alone in the mountains, with just the birds, rabbits, the sound of the water... fantastic.
The weather does not look good for tomorrow so I'll go to Mt Cook area in the morning. It is almost mid way to Christchurch and should offer other fantastic views and walks.
