After several weeks in Vietnam and Thailand, it is very easy to feel the difference of wealth.
I joined Seb and Sam -one of his friend he met 5 months ago in Vietnam-. They are 2 very good guides and we went out in bars and clubbing.
First impression of the capital city and the Cambodians is really good even if prostitution seems to be everywhere. I'll stay here until Wednesday to visit a couple of Museums, the Palace and see the Killing fields.
15/06, walked around in the city, seeing mainly the market and the riverside. This gave me the time to lose my diary. I forced myself to write something personal every day but I also had my main debit card and my phone book inside. C est la vie and part of traveling.
16/06, Seb and I went to visit the killing Fields, 14 km outside the city (by bicycles) and the Genocidal museum. I expected the same type of shocking barbaric pictures than I saw in the War Museum but it was different. In Cambodia, you feel the heavy recent history of the places and take your time.
17/06, I've visited the main places: Royal Palace and National Museum plus a walk in the markets. I really like Phnom Penh but the tuk tuk + beggars + kids selling books... are the most annoying I've seen in South East Asia. After 3 days in the country, it reminds me of India.
Going to Siem Reap tomorrow while Seb stays here to find a job and maybe stay another 6 months. Huge respect for what he is doing. It takes a lot of courage to do a "round the world" trip alone, without taking the plane (yes!!! that means weeks to cross the oceans by boat) and working in places like Phnom Penh to travel longer (maybe 3 or even 5 years in his case).
