Let's be honest about Vang Vieng: it is awful. What was like Muang Ngoi few years ago has given its soul to tourism and easy money.
The town is in an ideal spot with a river and huge impressive limestone cliffs around but the town is like any occidental summer resort and there is nothing Lao in it, included the menus. We can see dozens of tourists doing nothing all day but watching "friends" on TV. SAD
It is also a drug center with restaurant and bar menus including Happy shake, special mushroom pizza or opium tea. Nevermind.
Went for the main touristic attractions on the 29th: Tubing. You are in a tube, going down the river for 4km and stopping at the numerous bars for a beer Lao and a swing above the river, sometimes as high as 10m
Went to bed at 9pm with headache, muscles pain and a rat making a lot of noise, while running around eating my soap. Bastard, I hate those animals.
I think we will not stay here for too long and will go down to Vientiane today if possible.
As you can see on all the photos of the last week, the monsoon is now well established in Northern Laos and we have at least 1 or 2 hours of heavy rain each day with a noticeable increase of the numbers of mosquitos feeding on my ankles every evening.
NB: Happy Queen's Day!!!!

. We were the usual group of 10 of us so we made the most out of it and it took us around 7h to do the 4km. Nice.Went to bed at 9pm with headache, muscles pain and a rat making a lot of noise, while running around eating my soap. Bastard, I hate those animals.
