We had a 8h boat trip via Nong Khiaw on the Namou river to reach the Mekong and Luang Prabang. It was just fantastic and the people along the river (and in the rest of Laos) are so friendly, they smile all the time. I really love it here.
The city itself looks stunning with the mix of wooden houses, traditional markets, and colonial style. It is the first place I've seen that looks like a city (even if it is more a town with 30,000 inhabitants) with its streets, pavements and building with hard walls. Visited several temples and the museum. There is a strong feel good factor around.
Another thing is the number and size of butterflies in Laos. There are so many of them, beautiful and so big sometimes you're not sure if they're not small birds.
The French did not leave many universities or good infrastructure in the country but the food is really good here with proper BAGUETTES! The Lao coffe with sweet milk is also a delicacy.
Went to a waterfall with several natural pools in the middle of the jungle. It was superb and some of us ranked the site as one of the most beautiful we've ever seen. Great time there before the usual dinner from the market and beers near the Mekong. I don't see how it could be better.
I now know how it could be better after another great massage.
