Bogotá.... my birthplace, my childhood place, my school's place, my university years place, my city. Yes, all of my life has basically revolved around Bogotá.

Some people hate it, some people love it... if anything, I think it doesn't leave you indifferent. There have been several Bogotás though: the Bogotá of my childhood, ugly, dark, polluted and full of traffic.. Then, some ten years ago, it took one visionary mayor to start the revolutionary change you can witness today. In those ten years, I'm proud to say, we've all helped change the face of the city. We still have pollution, we still have traffic... but, then, we also have a city everyone feels proud about, a city that finally you see full of foreign tourists, a city of world-class theatre festivals and art collections, a buzzing city of restaurants and nightclubs, a city of houses that have been restored to their old splendour... A city you can enjoy walking in once again, that makes you look up from the sidewalk to gaze at some detail of some balcony or belltower, at a dragon or fish-shaped doorknob, at some old person sitting in a doorway...

I'm not being a travel agent... I'm just being an honest traveler who is convinced of the beauty of what lies at and close to home, but who is only truly starting to discover it. That is why this travelogue isn't like the other ones around... it's an ongoing trip that has started and will continue, accompanying me along my journey of discovering my country. I invite everyone to accompany me on it, to take the chance to visit a country that hasn't received positive attention from the world in decades, a country that will surprise, reward and enchant those who venture into it... We won't run away from our problems, but we do want to show you the other face...
