Where I stayed
So, with one full day to explore the city centre, we started by trying to find somewhere for brunch. It was a little harder than we expected as it was Good Friday, which we found out at the information centre was more like our Easter Sunday in terms of business hours..
We had luckily coincided our time in Melbourne with the comedy festival, and it would be rude not to go to a least one show. Having looked through the extensive program with still no idea who to go for we decided to just plump for one that some guy had given us a flyer of... Mathew Keneally, who’s show was based on grumbling about other people! Something that recently related well to my grumpy boyfriend! The comedian was an Ozzie, so unfortunately a lot of the stories were based on recent developments within Oz, or about politicians we had never heard of - so it didn’t mean too much to us but it was still a good laugh for an hour!
The next day we headed out to St Kilda. Feeling in need of a bit of exercise and to see more of the Botanic Gardens, we headed there on foot; passing through the City Centre (full of shoppers once again!), over to South Bank, through part of the Botanic Gardens and eventually around the lake in Albert Park. The Gran Prix was only a week before, so there were still a lot of structures on the road around the lake, which was used for the track, pretty cool! The walk was a little longer than we had anticipated, taking a good hour and a half, so we were relieved to finally reach Acland Street - the main drag of St Kilda, full of cute little shops and restaurants near the beach. We met up with Kirsty, a friend I met when i was last travelling in Australia, reminiscing on old times when we were all staying in St Kilda together! We caught the tram back to the city for a wander around the shops, trying desperately not to buy anything! On our final night, we headed back to South Bank and by chance found a restaurant in a shopping centre but with a balcony overlooking the river, perfect way to end our stay!
