Where I stayed
Breakfast of freshly made bread, then a morning of piano playing, play station and washing before we all headed out for a day trip north towards Farewell Spit
It really was a magical place, with an abundance of sand creating lots of small dunes. It was, however a tad windy, blowing sand everywhere but hey, we were already covered after our boarding escapades! We were lucky enough to spot a few baby seals, surfing the waves near us before the boys raced on to some steeper slopes to board on, terror! We opted for cheering and watching, boy it was a good decision after watching the boys eat sand and have near misses to crashing into rocks! Cold and exhausted, we headed back and stopped at “The Mussel Inn”, for a well earned drink and a very amusing and animated game of jenga! The evening’s entertainment was the film “Night at the Museum 2” (surprisingly good!), and roast pork with a huge amount of veg and roast potatoes, all of which I think Bernie and Susie were amazed to see we polished off fairly easily
The next morning was the rugby game, England versus France which Bernie and Ben were up early to watch. Susie made some delicious blueberry muffins, before we got everyone together for a brisk walk to some waterfalls, crossing a very narrow and bouncy swing bridge. After a quick lunch of homemade bread & cheese, we gave the boys a quick ride in back of Polly - before we were sadly on the move again. Back up and down the hill, through Nelson, past Blenheim and all the vineyards, to arrive in Kaikora just as the sun was setting over the ocean. We reheated the final tub of Chinese food, and settled down for our last night in Polly, sob sob.
