Nelson Holiday Park

On arriving in Nelson we were welcomed by a beautiful sunset over the water, which I managed to (rather skillfully if I do say so myself) take some photos while Ben was driving! We were in luck, we arrived at our chosen holiday park 1 minute before the reception was closing and got the last power site! Too tired to cook and craving some Chinese food, we ventured into town to get some take away. Not really paying attention to the menu (and letting our stomachs do the talking), we ordered a duck with pancakes along with 2 other standard dishes... to find out we had racked up a bill of 40 pounds worth. We were flabbergasted, especially when we saw there was not a huge amount of duck for its extortionate price! It did taste darn good though, and we were too full to eat the other dishes in the end – meaning we would at least end up with 3 separate meals for our money!

We had managed to extend check out time by 2 hours, so had a well needed lie in before venturing into Nelson to walk around the pretty town. Our time was cut short when I realised I had left the comfy trousers I bought in Ecuador back in the bathroom of the holiday park. This led to panic, and rushing Polly back to the site – to see luckily that no one had touched them. Having finished in Nelson, we started the climb up the hill towards our next destination, Takaka, stopping at the top to cook lunch at a lookout near some caves. A girl of about 6 came up to us while cooking asking what we were doing here before telling us not to go to the caves otherwise we will die! Taking her advice, we continued down the hill – avoiding the caves - and arrived in Takaka at around 5pm to find a pink school building, where my cousin's children were in a swimming gala!
