Sunday we moved on to another valley after we had seen many posters in different towns of how beautiful Sorata looked. Only a short distance from Coroico as the crow flies there is no passable road so it was to be back up the road to La Paz. By now the new road was open so we got to experience the difference. It was tarmacked most of the way (although there were many parts of gravel or ditches) and there was a barrier most of the way up as well as being less windy, so much less terror... At the top of the road, we joined the old part where we saw more tour groups starting their descent on the bikes for the day. Here we witnessed one girl come flying off her bike on a corner but luckily staying on the road and the van behind stopping in time. Itlooked like a nasty fall, and it seems it happens a lot as we have met others since that fell off their bike too, glad it's all over for us!

Yet another winding downhill road to Sorata, we finally arrived to our hostel, Las Piedras. The hostel was down some steep steps and then over a bridge made from a log and down another steep hill, not so easy with my backpack on and all I could think was how do we get up from this again!! We were hoping to be able to cook for ourselves but the kitchen had been rented out so that ended that plan. Sorata was a lovely small town with beautiful views of the snow capped mountain Illampu in the distance but by now we just wanted somewhere to completely chill, cook our own food and have an easy walk into town and this wasn’t it. So we decided to just stay for one night and move onto Copacabana on Monday. (Ben: Although not before we had eaten a plate of excellent beef tacos in the 'Mexican' restaurant on the plaza...).
