Well our first day in the Capital started early (ugh, again - Nic) as we headed first to the simple store... I mean apple store to drop off Abi's laptops (2 macs, BOTH broken... HA - Ben) then walked into the centre and started our trek around the 'national mall'. Bit of a stupid title really. There aren't any shops, just museums and monuments. White House was first as it was closest, it was ok, about as good as a big, white, house can be. Next was the Washington Monument. To our surprise you could go all the way up the 550ft monstrosity but it was sold out for that day so we pledged to come back tomorrow.

Since it was baking and the girls were complaining about being hot (Mainly Abi - Ben) we opted to head to the Natural History Museum. Unlike the one in New York this one was actually pretty cool. Firstly the floor plan was WAY better and sorta guided you round and so you didn't have to 'plan your route'. Secondly, on the 2nd floor (1st floor was dinosaur stuff - Ben) was a whole section on Gems and generally very expensive rocks. The epitome of this was the hope diamond (Valued at about 200-250 million dollars) which was cool. There were also massive emeralds, sapphires, a HUGE crystal ball (solid Quartz Crystal, 15,000 carats or something silly) and other stuff.

Next on the list was the Air and Space Museum. A particular highlight for Nic and I, we spent several hours in there looking at the big air-planes and learning about how the wright brothers came to build the first flying machines ( I think we did this before... but we were about 6!). I personally spent some time in the kids bit playing with all the fun physics toys like the levitating ball :P. We left about 7 all a bit tired from the night before (Stupid guy in our dorm turned our AC off and woke us all up sweating in the middle of the night! - Abi) so we headed back at this point for dinner and sleep.
