New Amsterdam is East along the coast from Georgetown. Our project works at the hospitals and clinics there and I went with Alam to get acquainted with hospitals and staff. It was an interesting car ride along a decent paved road, but the drivers are terrible and cows, dogs, pigs etc... are constantly walking out into the road. We then took a ferry across the river to the city. The trip was long as there was a long wait for the ferry and one of our consultant doctors had to bribe a man to get us to the front of the line or we would have been waiting all day. Alam and I returned that evening. Saw a pig get hit by a min-bus while waiting for our ride on the way back. It made a fairly terrible sound. Im surprised I havent seen more animals get hit given the stray dogs and animals everywhere.
