We're in Phuket now, but not at the beach so can't tell you much about that side of it. We're staying in the city and it's pretty much like any other city we've seen. Have done some shopping, Trudie got a pair of pants and two tops and I got a pair of pants. It came to 790B (NZ$32) which is a bargain really. We were only going to get three items until the lady talked us into another top, and almost halved her price. We're out of here tomorrow and am booked on Air Asia. Our flight has been delayed already so I hope that's not a bad omen. We've talked to someone else who has flown Air Asia and she said they're OK. We just booked a couple more flights from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and then onto Hanoi. Not too expensive - comes to about 7000B ($NZ280), which is pretty good for two flights one of which is international. Trudie has headed back to the hotel, we've been sorting a few things out on the internet for the last 2 hours! The hotel in OK, it's called the Imperial and is on Phuket road. I wouldn't recommend staying in the city if holidaying in Phuket, it's not much really. We've tried to book some accommodation in Bangkok, a hostel called Shanti. We heard about it from a travel magazine and read another review. It looks quite good on the net so I hope we hear back from them soon.

Checked out the local market, which turned out to be a food market but it was great. All sorts of things on display, from intestines to purple eggs. We found a stall that looked quite busy and ordered with the pointng method. Trudie had some rice with a couple of beef curries on top and I had a green curry and another similar curry. They were very nice and tasty, not to say hot and cheap at 70B (NS$2.80). We grabbed some drinks, once again with the pointing method (pointing at a Thai family with yellow drinks). The drinks we received were kinda like watered down starfruit juice but a little more bland. Now, starfruit juice is like prunes but not exactly. I don't think we'd knowingly order those particular drinks again but they were'nt all that bad. We found what looked like a sweet stall, kinda little pancakes with yellow balls rolled inside. The lady at the stall didn't speak English so once again we pointed and spent about 30B on mini pancakes. They turned out to be very tasty, we've discovered across Thailand the pancakes are popular and good. Strolled home after this, took us about 30 minutes. Strolling home or anywhere for that matter usually consists of waking in the right general direction and then if we don't arrive home checking the map. Most often we end up somewhere interesting or back at the hotel or guesthouse.

I'll have to get around to uploading some more pictures!
