Laguna Quilotoa

From Quito we took a bus to Lactacunga and then changed to another local bus to Quilotoa which ran all efficiently and didnīt take that long at all ( about 8 hrs). In Lactacunga we caught another bus that took us into the mountains and arrived in Quilotoa a little later. a tiny town but all women wore traditional dresses which gave the town the special atmosphere. We found a nice hostal called Pachamama which had a oven in the room. The next day we got up really early to hike around the crater lake.
The Laguna is a green lake which lies in a vulcanic crater. Absolutely stunning, especially when the sun shines into the water ad turns it turcoise green
It looked realtively easy but it was quite hard going because we had to hike uphill and downhill for about8 hours. However it was totally worth it because we could enjoy the scenery to both sides, one side we saw the beautiful lake which sparkled green in the sunlight and the other side the scenery changed all the way around. We were really lucky with the weather because the heavy rain clouds were rolling but it ever rained once. Just right at the end about a few hundred meter from the door of the hostal it started pissing it down...but we still got home dry. In the afternoon we had nice almuerzo (lunch) with soup and lamb and rice.
We enjoyed our stay in Quilotoa and it gave us a little insight to the Ecuadorian countryside living.
