We continued to explore Cooktown, first visiting the Lighthouse and lookout and then we walked from the lookout to Cherry Tree Bay through the rainforest. We stopped off at Finch Bay before heading off down the Blomfield Track towards Cape Tribulation.

Stopped of at The Lions Den Hotel, where a tradition of writing on the pub walls began when the miners used to frequent the pub. There are hundreds of people's names on the walls, and Beth even spied a name from Colwyn Bay where she went to school!

We stayed at Haley’s Campsite on the Blomfield Track and the owner suggested a couple of spots we should check out and have a fish. This turned out to be quite eventful! Needing to take sandy 4WD tracks to get there we first checked out the mouth of the Blomfield River. We then headed North up the coast on the same track to another river (we’ve forgotten the name!!). We came to a dodgy spot in the track with a big dip which we were concerned the bike carrier would get scraped on, but we decided to go for it anyway! Ben eased the car down the dip and immediately got bogged in the deep sand after the bike carrier had been well and truly dragged along the rocks, d’oh! Luckily, we managed to remember what we learnt on the 4WD course, dropped our tyre pressures right down and cruised straight out, no problem!! Very relieved!!

We decided to try and have a fish at this river, making sure we were on a bank to avoid the crocs! After about 15 mins, Beth spotted something huge moving out of the mangroves on the bank of the river (about 300metres away) – a 3-4metre CROCODILE!!! Our first sighting of one in the wild!!! Beth immediately packed up and got back in the car, Ben kept his cool and continued to fish until the croc got in the water and started cruising his way over to him and then disappeared! Ben then packed up rather quickly and got into the car too! Scary!!

On our way back to the dip we had got stuck in, we found a track going to the right which we decided to follow and sure enough, it led us back to the track whilst avoiding the dip so we could have avoided it all together!! At least we didn’t get stuck!
